This looks like a great deal for the Phillies, as they will get a veteran pitcher for next to nothing, which allows them to still be a major player for Roy Halladay. With the addition of Pedro, the Phillies have a veteran who is nearing the end of his outstanding career. Martinez has pitched for the Dodgers, Expos, Red Sox, and Mets, piling up 214 wins against only 99 losses. He also helped lead the Red Sox to their first World Series in 86 years back in 2004. Considering how cheap he was to get, there is really nothing to lose with this signing. Good work Ruben Amaro, Jr. and the rest of the Phillies staff for working together and making this happen.
